Loch Scammadale
Loch Scammadale lies 2½ miles off the A816 Oban to Lochgilphead road, approx. 10 miles south of Oban. It is 1½ miles long and drops to a depth of around 150ft at the centre. The river Euchar connects it to Loch Feochan, a sea loch.
A road runs along the northern shore of the loch which offers easy access. There are few trees around the loch and the ground is fairly level and firm which makes for easy bank fishing.
The fishing in Scammadale isn't fantastic, with brown trout averaging 'three to the pound', mainly due to the lack of re-stocking in the loch. There are runs of salmon and sea trout throughout the year, which are dependant on spate conditions in the River Euchar, but few fish have been caught in recent years.
Permits are reasonably priced and available locally (signposted).
